Smartcards Combined With Electronic Voting Keypads Equal Efficient Member Elections
Delegate James arrives for his denomination’s annual member meeting and election. Representing the largest annual event, for one the nation’s largest denominations, this event has suffered from registration and balloting challenges in the past. As such, James arrives early hoping to secure a place at the top of the line and avoid the excruciatingly registration time experienced last year.
As the doors to the convention center open with a whoosh, James sees the crowd meander in one large pile towards the entrance in front of him. “Not again,” he groans to himself, anticipating another lengthy registration process.
Before long though, James feels something rarely experienced at past meetings and elections he’s attended – a moving registration line. Upon reaching the convention center entrance, James learns what is causing this strange experience. He receives an electronic voting system and keypad, branded with the name IML, and a Smartcard ID card.
Within moments, the event organizer David explains to James that once he inserts his ID card into his IML Communicator, all his delegate information will be contained in the palm of his hand. When it is time to vote for candidates, the electronic voting keypad will instantly record and verify his vote.
Just so James doesn’t worry, David assures him that all votes placed with the IML Communicator are legal and accurately recorded, complete with a paperless audit trail. Should there be an inquiry after the meeting auditors could connect every vote placed to the delegate who placed it.
Delegate James walks into crowd, ecstatic to be so quickly surrounded by his peers. Before he knows it, voting is set to begin.
As candidates are announced for high level denomination leadership positions, delegates place their votes using the IML electronic voting keypads system and keypad. James and his peers see results post instantly to the conference center’s large monitor.
Thanks to the Smartcard ID cards, votes are even segmented and tracked on a color-coded state map, based on where the delegate hails from. A nice touch, James thinks.
Voting soon ends, and the newly elected candidates move on to their next challenges. Thanks to the IML Communicators, the challenges to be experienced by these candidates did not come at the cost of a challenging meeting and election for delegates.
After turning in his IML Communicator, delegate James moves on to his next challenge. Finding his car in the convention center’s parking lot. “If only IML Communicators could help with this,” laughs James.
